BWA Plant Tour Focus Groups focus on continuous improvement along with the reduction and elimination of waste in our manufacturing processes.

Focus Group Challenge: A leading manufacturer of countertops, Formatop is seeking to reduce their lead times with automation and technology that will greatly improve their production throughput and reduce inventory levels.  The theme for this focus tour is to evaluate opportunities on how to transition to a JIT & low-level inventory system. Additionally, Formatop has also recently undergone a thorough upgrade of its safety guarding for its machinery and has an adept understanding of meeting industry requirements.

Event Format: BWA Plant Tour Focus Groups are focused on continuous improvement and the reduction and elimination of waste in our manufacturing processes. Hosts provide an overview of their business, best practices, followed by the presentation of a challenge or problem to the group they are trying to solve or improve. This is followed by a tour and a focus on the area in question. The group then debriefs with a facilitated discussion on suggestions for the host to help solve their problem and reduce waste in their processes. Themes of Lean Manufacturing principles are referenced and benchmarked in informal discussion and information sharing.

Formatop Manufacturing Co.: With over 40 years of experience and innovation Formatop Manufacturing Co. is a manufacture of FSC® certified HPL composite wood products for residential, retail, office, healthcare, and educational environments. Manufacturing countertops for everyday living their operational management philosophy is based on the principles of continuous improvement, effective cost reduction, and environmentally friendly production practices.
