To help limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we are postponing our upcoming Quarterly Networking Event at Humber College on March 26th, 2020.

We are working with our guest speakers and community partners to reschedule. We will share the new date once we have a better understanding of the duration of this developing situation.

BWA Quarterly Networking Event:
Export Readiness Series

Humber Centre for Trades & Technology
110 Carrier Dr., Etobicoke
March 26th, 2020 – 12:30PM to 4PM

In addition to the networking and the industry connections you will make, learn how to improve and grow your business. You won’t want to miss this value-packed event!

The themes this quarter include:

  • Workforce Development for the Wood Industry: Panel Discussion Case Studies and Resources for Hiring Immigrants and Refugees for the Wood Industry, and
  • BWA Exporting case study examples for the wood industry for companies exploring export, and online resources.

Hiring and retaining labour talent for the wood industry – one of the biggest challenges we face today.

A panel discussion of BWA members who have hired immigrants and refugees will share their stories, along with community resource professionals who have matched immigrant labour to manufacturing operations. Pathways for BWA members to take in pursuing hiring immigrants and refugees will be explored, and shared. Also, available government resources will be presented by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, along with other regional resources for BWA manufacturers to pursue.

Question and answer period will follow to ensure solid take-aways for members.

Humber College also has talented students in their wood program, and Drew Asslepp of Humber college will speak to their programs and what students will come away with prepared to enter your workforce. I am sure there will be student resumes available!

Wood Product Exporting – Case Studies and Online Resources

Lucian Mihett, Export Development Canada’s Senior Account Manager and an experienced commercial banker will share case studies of wood manufacturing companies that have entered export markets, who previously were not exporting. All of the steps along the way, challenges and risks that were overcome will be shared, along with EDC programs that can help.

Emily Collins of Magnet will provide a short demo of the Export resource portal that is now available and customized on the BWA website for members to access.

Most Important – Networking: We create plenty of opportunities to network and connect with industry partners! Make new connections, and meet with old ones! Your current and future customers and suppliers are here. So much B2B takes place it’s hard to measure!
