Hello everyone! Spring is fast moving into summer, and June 21 is the date of the next quarterly networking event hosted in Walkerton!
This is the only place the wood industry in Ontario networks at this level! Come to meet others in the industry, and grow your industry contacts! In addition to the networking and the industry connections you will make, learn how to improve and grow your business.
The themes this quarter include:
Ergonomics and Ministry of Labour Compliance: The Ontario Ministry of Labour has standards that wood manufacturers need to comply with regarding Ergonomics in the Wood Manufacturing Environment. What systems do you have in place? What are your ergonomic risks? Do you think you comply? Are you experiencing workplace injuries or worker fatigue on certain jobs? Marnie Downey of Ergo Inc. is a pro in this field and will share valuable information with BWA members on what is necessary, what you can do, and reflect on what you have in place to make it better. Ergonomic assessments are key to this, and she will shed light on what they are and what they can do to help.
FSC Certification: What is FSC certification? A number of our members have recently completed the certification as a requirement demanded by certain customers, especially when exporting. The Forest Stewardship Council is a certification for your wood products that guarantee its source and its processes. Why are more customers demanding it? What type of customers are they? What are the costs and labour involved to implement it? ROI? Vivian Peachey, Director of Standards of FSC Canada, will provide an overview of what FSC is and what is involved. PLUS: BWA member companies will share their experiences with implementing the certification and its ROI.
Severance and Termination Review: As BWA companies need to ensure their culture aligns with their vision, evolve with changes, and are in-step with how they want to move forward, they also need to be up to date and aware of the risks and requirements involved regarding termination of employees. Jill Sampson of The Alliance Lawyers will provide a concise overview of the Employment Standards Act that applies specifically to Severance and Termination. Some case samples and scenarios will be shared that create a rough benchmark of what to expect if legal action ensues from a termination.
BWA Initiatives: The BWA is launching several initiatives that include: BWA Benefits Program, BWA Sandler Sales Training Program, and BWA Lean Training Program. Come to make sure you are up to speed on all of the opportunities with your BWA membership! Supercluster program still coming in future!
Most important: Networking and time to connect with industry partners! Make new connections, and meet with old ones! Your current and future customers and suppliers are here. So much B2B takes place it’s hard to measure!
So don’t miss out. Confirm your attendance now! This event is open to non-members, sign up to learn first hand what we are about.
Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held ahead of the QNE and begins at 11:30 AM
